Smokin' With Superman at The Annex

It was an awesome show, sorry if you missed it. In any case, I've posted my photos on my website.

If you haven't heard of Smokin', you should have. As Donald Duck Dunn said in The Blues Brothers, they are a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline. It's impossible to describe their sound. Part hip-hop, jazz, ska, reggae, lots of funk. You have to listen to it. Easily my favorite band since the heyday of Natty Nation back before J-Max died.

Jimmy Buffett Podcasts

I've been a long-time listener of Wastin' Away on the North Coast, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to pimp it a little here. They boys discuss the latest Buffett news and gossip and whatever else pops in to their heads (Roger Clyne, usually). They remind me of sitting around with my friends (on the Bradshaw porch, or the Jordan boat). The audio could use a little compression (and normalization), I find myself cranking the volume, and occasionally being blasted by someone too close to a Mic.. but it's worth it.

Just today I discovered The TropiCast Radio Network (The Official Soundtrack of Your Tropical Dreams) .. Jimmy Pirate plays great Trop Rock, unfortunately as a 64K MP3 sampled at 22.05Khz, so it's hard listening occasionally. Maybe they'll upgrade someday.

Yes, you're reading that correctly. Bruce Springsteen (the blue collar hero and the working man's friend) has teamed up with 17 folk musicians to put out an album of Pete Seeger (counter-culture icon, blacklisted socialist, anti-war and environmental activist) songs. And it's being released (initially) only to Clear Channel Stations.

It seems clear that The Boss has lost his mind (to say nothing of his working man roots and, perhaps, credibility). I hereby move that we start a fundraising effort to get The Boss the help he so desperately needs.
