Waterproofing a Real Deal Brazil

I picked up a Real Deal Brazil hat.  It is the most fantastic hat, but a major flaw is that is isn't waterproof, so in a downpour, it saturates and soaks you and your head.
I've read online that they can be waterproofed using various bee's wax-based waterproofing agents, so I decided to try Sno Seal, and set out on sunny afternoon to give it a try.

Before

• Before applying anything, I set the hat and Sno Seal out in the sun to warm up.
• Then, I warmed the hat a bit more with a hairdryer on low, applied Sno Seal, hair dried, applied again, hair dried, and let it sit for a while in the sun.
• After, the hat was significantly darker, stiffer, and doesn't seem to provide quite as much airflow.

But, it's WAY more waterproof!  This is after a 10 minute walk in a soaking downpour:

Banana Wind

Shamelessly stolen from RumShopRyan:

• 1 jigger of Light Rum
• 1 jigger of Creme de Banana
• 1 jigger of White Creme de Cacao
• 2 jiggers Cream
• 1/2 of a ripened Banana
• Cherry and Pineapple garnish

Fill blender one-quarter with ice. Add ingredients. Blend until smooth and pour into frosted glass. Garnish. Raise glass and toast.

Frozen Toasted Almond

• 1oz amaretto liqueur
• 1/2oz Kahlúa liqueur
• 1/2oz Baileys Original Irish Cream
• 1oz vanilla ice cream
• 1 scoop ice

Mix in a blender and serve in a tall stemmed glass with umbrella.

She's going down!

So, they took down Ogg Hall and left a kinda oddly shaped greenspace in it's place. Clearly drainage wasn't on their mind, as the lower half almost immediately filled with water. The first dozen times (last summer and this summer) they would pump the water out and replace the sod (never, it seems, fixing the drainage problems.)

It flooded again last month, and they just left it (maybe in hopes of having a skating rink over winter?) .. Someone (art students, perhaps?) decided to build a sinking steamship in it.

Cayman Sunset

• 1 shot each dark and amber rums
• 1/2 shot banana liquor
• 1 shot each pineapple and orange juices

blend with ice and half oz piña colada mix. Pour in a tall glass with 1/2 oz grenadine in the bottom. Float Myers on top.

• 1 shot Malibu
• 1 shot Blue Curacao
• 2 shots pinapple juice
• dash lemon juice

Shake with ice and serve in a colada glass with cherry, lime and pineapple.

Wally Whacker

• 2 ounces Grey Goose vodka
• 1 ounce Bacardi white rum
• 1 ounce Bailey's Irish Cream
• 1 ounce Kahlua coffee liqueur
• 1/2-ounce amaretto
• 1/2-ounce dark creme de cacao
• 1/2-ounce cream of coconut

Place one scoop of ice in a blender, pour all the ingredients on top and blend until smooth. Swirl Hershey's syrup on the inside of a glass. Pour in blender contents; top with whipped cream, ground nutmeg and a cherry.

Tortuga Gorda

• 1 ounce Cruzan 151 rum
• 1 ounce pineapple rum
• 1 ounce blue Curaçao
• 1 ounce melon liqueur
• 1 ounce each of pineapple juice and orange juice
• 1 ounce Sprite

Mix in a big glass with ice. Stir, then garnish with an orange and a cherry.

Boozer Colada

• 1.25oz coconut rum
• 0.75c pineapple juice
• dash of grenadine, strawberry and cranberry juices

Midori Margaritas

Sounds nummy to me... A Rum Infused Life: Midori Margaritas

A Midori Margarita recipe for bidding summer adieu.

1 1/2 oz white/clear Tequila (you can use regular tequila, but the color will look bad when mixed with the green Midori)

1/2 oz triple sec

1 oz fresh lime juice

1/2 oz Midori melon liqueur

Salt

Prepare it as you would any other margarita - moisten the rim of a cocktail glass with lime juice and dip in salt. Shake ingredients together, and pour into a glass filled with crushed ice.

Bushwacker recipe: equal parts of Bailys (or Carolans, a cheaper version of Bailys), Kahlua, Vodka, Rum (Cruzan of course), Amaretto, Cream of coconut. Blend with ice, top with fresh nutmeg. Yummy!
